How to Eliminate Smoke
I've been receiving a lot of inquiries about smoke – especially from casinos and from home and business owners too in light of all the recent California fires.
How do I get rid of smoke from my home and business? Will a diffuser remove the smoke? Does it just cover up the odor? Help!
Effective smoke mitigation calls for a two-pronged attack. The reason it is two-pronged is because there are two issues to address - smoke particulates and odor. And each calls for a slightly different solution. Let's begin with the particulates.
The ONLY way to remove particulates combines a low and high tech solution: cleaning and purification. You will need to clean and may need to replace (as in the case of a fire), carpets, wall hangings, window coverings and effected surfaces. For places like casinos, they need regular cleaning of course. To purify the air, you will need a good portable HEPA filtered air purifier or an industrial air purification system properly sized and rated for your spatial requirements. This is the ONLY way to remove smoke particulates.

There are chemicals that can be emitted by a diffuser or placed in cannisters in the air ducting that will ionically bond to and neutralize smoke particles by “knocking them down” and leaving a fresh scent. This is the second part of the solution. Additionally, they proliferate the environment with fragrance. However, instead of using chemicals, I highly recommend specific pure essential oil blends because a number of promising independent studies show that these essential oils help reduce lung tissue and mucous membrane irritation and inflammation.

Essential oils also help clean the air of mold, microbes, spores, bacteria and viruses. In fact, hospitals and science report that complex and efficient essential oils will kill resistant strains of MRSA and other pathogens better than chemicals!
According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), synthetic fragrance chemicals are considered to be the leading cause of cosmetic contact dermatitis. And other non-fragrance industry funded studies indicate synthetic and chemical scents can cause mild to severe reactions in 16.9 to 32.7 percent of the population! On the contrary, essential oils (which are free of pollen due to distillation) inhaled at suitable recommended levels are generally recognized as safe by the FDA and US Library of Medicine reports "very few side effects when used as directed."
I look forward to your
questions and comments and hope this information helps you find the best soluition for you.
